At least thats what my mom used to say....

As some of you may know, I have been searching for a "bargain" 98 action for some time now... got the itch to build "something".. you know what I mean..

well on the bulletin board at my gunclub, there was a sale notice for a JC Higgins model 50 in 270...this is the one with the FN commercial action... for $250 bucks.. I grabbed it off the wall as fast as I could and called the guy and told him SOLD, sight unseen.

well, I picked it up last weekend, and the rifle is pristine. hardly a mark on it, new hogue stock, a really nice crisp trigger, and a chrome bore. (factory feature on the 270 back then from what i could find) So now I can't bring myself to break it down! For a 1954 vintage rifle, even though it has a sears branded name on the barrel, it is a sweet looking lightweight handling piece...

so I ordered bases and rings for it, and if it shoots reasonably well, it will remain as is..

If not, it will become something else... not sure what... maybe a 280

That's the danger of buying complete rifles. Smiler I've been buying bare actions for a while now. Anyway, nice find. You'd have a much bigger bullet selection in 7mm.

Yup, but when the price is right, a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do, right?
