Specs on a Mauser 8 x 57 Military barrel?
Of all things I don't have lying around is an old military 8mm Lg Ring.

If anyone has one handy, could you measure the dia at the steps for me.

I want to see if it will fit an a particular stock I have.

Thanks

You'd need to be more specific as to which LR model you have. The Turk long barrels for example differ from the 98/22's. And even the shorter barrels can differ.

Off the top of my head, for a 98/22 barrel, the step immediately in front of the ring is about 1", the step where the sight normally resides is about .850", the next tapers from about .780" to about .650" and finally out near the sight they are .600". Don't hold me to it as I am at work and the barrel is not.

I'll try and be a bit more specific..

How about a VZ 24 8 x 57 23"

well, a quick and dirty caliper test on my VZ B/A shows .905 in front of the Rear sight sleeve, .650 in front of the the middle step, and .610 in front of the muzzle-end step.

Muzzel end step, .610"
Center step, .650"
Breech end step tapers (in front of rear sight) from .830" to .730"
These dimensions are from the takeoff VZ24 barrel I have here.
