barrel contours
There's alot of discussion here about balance and barrel weight. As I'm sure this comes mostly from experience, and I'm pretty new at this, I need some help. I want to barrel a standard 98 in 9.3x57. I want to use Mcgowan and will be threading, chambering...etc myself. He offers quite a few profiles. I'm thinking 21.5 - 23.0 finished length amd about .625-.650 at the muzzle. The profiles available can run from 3 lbs to 4 lbs at these dimensions. LOP will be around 13-3/4. What weight would be best? This gun, like my others, will hardly ever be hunted with.
Thanks for the help.
Edited: I left out that the stock is walnut.

A rifle balances not so much as what the barrel weighs but in so much as is it muzzle heavy or is it butt heavy (kinda like me Big Grin)

This is mostly a matter of opinion but a Bolt action rifle should balance just ahead of the trigger guard but no further forward then centered on the floor plate Any further forward and the muzzle is going to feel like it weighs a ton.

Look up gun fitting and see what you come up with.
