need 6x40 screws for scope rings
Some of the screws holding my older Redfield/Leupold rings together are buggered up and I'm looking for a source.

They are 6x40 and perhaps 1/4" long. I've got a screw kit from Brownells but those of the correct thread the head (socket?) are too large to fit into the ring. I'd prefer the 'torx' style head.

Would appreciate any info on a source.

We've got a box with some older Redfield screws in it at the shop. I'll be back Wednesday morning and check for you.

I also have a box of them but, the heads are too large to fit the rings and need to be modified, either the screw or the rings.

You will have to machine the heads to size; no one makes what you want.
Or re-tap your rings to 6-48, using an oversize tap, which will work.

Handy little screw making and modifying lathe in my shop. It has made thousands over the decades. A good companion to the larger machines.

Measure the head diameter, I may have something in the boxes of screws.

OK, I found 4 decent ones. PM your address and I'll get them out to you.

Ace Hardware has a gunsmith screw section 2-3 drawers of correct gun screws. You can usually find what you need there. while there, pick up the little bar that’s threaded for 3-4 common screw sizes. it’s great when you need to shorten a screw. After cutting and dressing the cut, backing the screw out of the bar will iron the cut threads into perfect alignment.
