<SNOW>Remington 700 Magazine Modification?
I'm wanting to have a 25x284 built on a 700 SA and was wondering if there is any way to get another .15" or more out of any of the REM 700 SA's??

<Big Stick>I've got a 25-284 on a 600 and another on a 700 short. More than content with both........

<Ross Spagrud>Yes.
You can mill it back .150 to the rear,
re-bend the mag box and shorten the bolt
stop.
Not as easy as it sounds but certainly
within the reach of any competent riflesmith.

<SNOW>Hey Big Stick, can you share some of your 25x284 loads with us? Components/veloc/COAL...

<Jordan>Someone is advertizing commercially an altered mag box for the short 700 which extends cartridge OAL about .10-.15 or some such thing. Cannot remember the name of the entity or where I saw the ad. It may have been on the web; could have been a gun mag.
I'll keep looking and if I find it, will post it.

<Big Stick>I shoot the 75gr X and V-Max most,at 3750fps,using Re-15 and W/W brass. 100gr XLC's will go 3400fps,with Re-22.
Simply have your barrel throated to your liking, with the projectile you expect to use. The mag box,is a non-issue with this cartridge and the projectiles mentioned.
Superb cartridge. I've built a 257Bob,257Bob Improved,25-06's,a 25-06Ackley and 257Wby's.
The 25-284's are the most accurate of the lot,and they are both lightish rifles,as compared to the other 25's I've had built. The 23" barrel,is a #1 contour. The 24" is a #3. All the rifles were Rem700 based, wearing great barrels(PacNor,Shilen,Douglas,Lilja),McMillan stocked and had Leupold glass. So it was a pretty even comparison. All shot very well,of course. But the 25-284's are amazing. The #1 has shot groups in the mid .2's. The #3 contour shot a .189".
The 25-284 is stellar and it suprises me,that it is so often overlooked............

<SNOW>I want to try the 100 Barnes or GS Custom HV 100's for small to med deer here in MS. Either pushed around 3300 fps or so should be like hitting them with a sledge hammer.
