These actions are really built with the "Tactical Crowd" in mind - thus the integral Picatinny rail. Sadly, they are a touch on the heavy side for many other applications - I once investigated one for a target type rifle.
If you are into M700 clones and willing to pay for a custom action, one option is Jerry Stiller's "Predator" action (see
this page). It is not made in great quatities, but with a bit of luck, you should be able to get one. Jim Borden, apparently also makes a custom action priced below the "regular" 900-1200 you'd pay for a custom BR action.
There are really lots of options out there these days.

MntngoatI have Stiller Predator being turned into a .243AI and don't think you can go wrong with any of Jerry's actions.

WoodjackAn enthusiastic metalsmith could:
-whitle away much of that top metal to create some very low profile integral bases for talley rings,
-scallop the sides of the action(like a Borden/NesikaBay),
-tig a slim bolt handle on.
......and come up with a very trim mountain rifle reciever.

fireball168The Tactical engraving is pretty gaudy.

lawndartThe bolt handle is a bit overkill as well.
Half the fun is finding an older model 700 action and whittling, squaring , truing, pinning, etc, etc.
Of the lot, the Predator piques my interest the most.
