CZ bolt face defects

JD MillerCZ bolt face defects
I have a CZ 527 223 that has pit inclusions in the steel in the bolt face, like you might see in a bad cast with air pockets. These arent primer leak pits, and are in various locations on the machined bolt face surface, and edge of fireing pin hole, the pits were there since the rifle was new. The pits dont effect the function of the rifle but look like shit
Is this common on CZ rifles or did I get a bad bolt made of junk steel?

craigsterI've got a CZ 527 Varmint in 204. The bolt face looks pretty close to perfect, nothing at all like yours.

Michael RobinsonGenerally, small imperfections on a bolt face are not problematic.
Not pretty, but not a problem.
Can you post a photograph?

M1TankerI have 2 550's and 2 527 as well as a few 452's. None of them have any pitting of any type on the bolt faces. A couple show some very minor tooling marks though.

I do, 527 American in .222, but don't have that condition on the bolt face.

Alta.SeparatistWe have 2 - 527 's in .223.
my daughter's American has a slightly rounded off edge on her bolt, and on mine there are three ever so slight indentations near the firing pin hole... just wondering if there would be any structural problems... agree with J D Miller; they sure don't look good, junk steel?

Bill LeeperI have seen this on a CZ as well and thought it to be a casting flaw (my feeling was that a piece with such a flaw had to be a casting). I didn't like it and bushed the bolt face to get rid of the pits. There appeared to be no pits further down but I have to say, the thought that a visible flaw might indicate a hidden one, did kind of nag at me. Regards, Bill.
