I had a look at a combo gun in, 7x57 rimmed and 12 guage. The 7x57 doesnt really turn me on ,and i wondered if its possible to rechamber it ,to a 7x65 rimmed ???can this be done ?? thanks

Well, don't know if its possible but I had the same itch a couple of years ago and sold my Sauer in 7x57R for another in 7x65R. Couldn't see that it killed any better but it sure was louder and kicked a bit more. So I went and sold it and bought a 7x57R again! I've not regret it! I've just gotten one of it's non rimmerdd kin too!

Perhaps. It would depend on how much steel there is in the barrel breech section over the spot where the shoulder of the longer cartridge would reach after rechambering - would it be thick enough at that spot that the chamber would not swell?? I have a Heym M55/77 O/U in .30/'06/20 ga., and the barrel is just about as thin a tube as they could make it, and still have some steel between the bore and the rest of the world! I know this tube could not safely be rechambered for a longer case, even if the shoulder diameters of the two were identical. There just ain't enough "meat" out there!

The 7X57 is a damn good round in its own right, BTW!!

I wouldn't do it, for a couple of reasons. The change in cartridges that you propose isn't going to gain you practical performance. Rechambering a combination gun is pretty difficult to do, I have rechambered a couple of Savage 24Vs. What brand of combination gun is it? Some, like the Russian EAA/Remingtons aren't worth buying in the 1st place.

I would stay with the 7X57, a main reason being that you can shoot non rimmed ammo in it if you forget yours and need to buy some.

I got a Savage 24V rebored to make 6x45mm from .223 Remington, came out all right. As an accidental bonus, the 20 gauge barrel shoots closer to the rifle barrel now...
