Guys,

What is involved in replacing a quarter rib on a Ruger #1 (International)?? Are the ribs readily avalable?? I could not spot any at Brownells, and Ruger's website is of no great help...

How are quarter ribs attached to a #1 - solder??

Does one need to reblue after replacement??

I gather, that it is the quarter rib that holds the integral scope bases for the #1, correct?? Apparently, the quarter rib was removed on this particular gun, to be used with open sights - or something?? If that is the case, does the rear sight have to be removed to be able to put on the quarter rib?? (As it will be apparent, I know ZILCH about Rugers in general and #1s in particular ).

mho, the rib is put on with machine screws. Look in the back of the Brownells catalog, they are listed in the parts section under Ruger. They are round $50.

Ruger #1 ribs are held on with screws and large diameter pins calle "dowels". They're listed in the Brownell's catalog in the OEM section.

Funny, that I can't seem to find the ribs on the Brownell site either. But I think I might have a catalog at home...

Nice custom rib fla3006, probably a bit more expensive than what I had in mind, though. (Don't mention the word "cheap", please ).

Wow, what a tour-de-force! Well written article, a tinkerer's dream. I'm not sure I would trust my own technical (in-)ability to do all this. Normally, if something needs fixing at my place, I reach for a bigger hammer...
