Kimber 8400 action
Hi guys,
Will a Kimber 8400 in 300WM fit a 300H&H in the magazine/action without alteration? Just curious as the Caprivi is listed also as the 8400 and is chambered for 375 length cases..

Cheers,
Mark.

Hah. That is one in 300WM for sale?

I wondered whether it could be made into a 458WM!

Definitely will take a .458.
I read that the 8400 Magnum will take a 375. I have not actually done that.

The loading gate on my Kimber 8400 who started as a 30-06 Sprg, later rebarreled to 338-06 A.Square is 89,5 mm. / a thad over 3,5 inch.
A 375 H&H case (same lenght as 300 H&H) loaded with a 270 grs Hornady RN measures 92,2 mm./ 3 10/16 inch.
I doubt that you can fit a 300H&H in a standard lenght 8400 action without modification.

Well, Kimber made the 8400 in 375 H&H. I can't say that there was a difference in the actions. But if it walks like a duck - - - - - - -

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

The "loading gate" on a bolt action means nothing; you never have to make a cartridge fit in there directly horizontally. I assume you mean the receiver side opening. Remember, cartridges feed from the bottom and are ejected out the side at an angle; they do not have to come out sideways at 90 degrees.
Measure the distance inside your receiver bottom, back to front; not the mag box and tell us that length, in inches. Remove it from the stock.

Ok, I`ll try again, stock is off:
The total inside measurement of the mag box is a tad over 3 10/16inch = 9,25 cm.
On my rifle there is a piece of sheet metal velded on the rear end of the mag box making it shorter and fit for the 30-06 length cartridge.
The bottom opening of the reciever measures very close to 3 12/16 inch = 9,46 cm.

That probably means there is length enough for a 375 H&H / 300 H&H cartridge?
Sorry for the not so exact measurements, but my ruler is a rough carpenter piece, not a mechanics tool...

Not probably; absolutely.
We usually break those fractions down to the lowest common denominator; so the mag box is 3 5/8ths, or 3.625. removing the block of course.
SAAMI length for a 375 is 3.6 and they usually are shorter; just measured a Win Power Point 300 grain solid; 3.584.
Case closed. I mean question.

That explains how they Kimber was able to make them in 375 H&H.

popcorn OK, I'll shut the fuck up now. Everyone hates a smart ass. LOL

I have a few 8400 actions, whether it is chambered in a standard length cartrdge or not, the actions are a full magnum length, just like a mag length 375 Model 70.
The only mods are swapping mag box from 3.4” to a 3.6” box and replacing the bolt stop for the shorter one used in the Talkeetna.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
