Andre MertensShooting report on new .338 Lothar Walther bbl.
Never before was I given such a demonstration of the paramount iportance of having a good barrel. I rebarrelled rifles before but always to another caliber so that I had no real basis for comparison. Now I can compare what my Win 70 in .338 Win Mag did with the stove pipe the factory insists on calling a barrel (the best it did was 5 into 2.5 MOA) and a premium grade Lothar Walther. After 58 rounds, using one powder and 2 bullet weights, I found my new bbl.'s pet load which shoots 5 Sierra 250 GK in .72 MOA. If it wasn't for the .338's recoil, this rifle could pass for an acceptable varmint gun
