IMHO The Mod. 760, 30-06 with the 18" barrel was one of the most versitile hunting rifles ever. That is as long as it didn't take too many rounds to sight it in. That metal butt plate was a real hammer.
A buddy of mine bounced all over the Rockies with one just like those photos. He and that rifle ( short sight radius and all) put a lot of meat on more than one table.
