UltramanWhat barrell maker is WH ???
I inherited a custom rifle (mauser action, 7X57, gourgeous left hand walnut stock) that has a barrel with the only markings being 7X57 on the top and another marking of WH toward the reciever. The 'H' of WH is at an angle matchcing the right vertical post forming the 'W'. Who made this barrel?? The gun was made between 14-18 yrs ago and I don't believe was ever fired(no scope or sights)Thanks guys

John RicksMy guess is William (Bill) Hobaugh. Might have the spelling incorrect.

South40American Rifleman index indicates an article on Bill Hobaugh barrels in August 1991 issue. Perhaps you can find a back issue somewhere.

AtkinsonI suspect the WH is the Custom rifle smith not the barrel maker...
Barrel makers don't normally stamp the barrels anywhere but perhaps on the face of the rifle prior to chambering, when it is usually removed by the smith during the chambering process....
