Mauser ????
I have a VZ-24 action, the last quarter to half inch of receiver thread (closest to the barrel torque shoulder) is missing, deteriorated, boogered up! Is this a problem?

If I chase the threads with a tap will the rest of the threads be sufficient?

So this action is crap? I think it was rusted and deteriorated it's a 1937 action.

I wouldn't use it. Why spend time and money on a questionable action when you can replace it for $60-80.

That's the way I feel about it too!

I hate that this one is bad though! Kind of makes me wish I wouldn't have disasembled it.

I've learned a lot just having it as a visual aid while reading the Kuhnhausen book.

I guess I should have said about half of the thread is missing on that part of the thread. It looks like it rusted and then broke off when removing the barrel. I originally thought that is just what happened to them when the barrel was screwed in, but realized it probably wasn't.

A friend pointed out to me that my post may have been misleading. The last .25" of the final turn of thread, not the last .25" of all the threads.

If you unwound the threads there would be approximately 8" of threads with the last .25" messed up.

That would make a difference. If you are only talking about a .25" of the last thread and the rest of the action is in good shape then I wouldn't have a problem using it.

Thanks Ramrod. I re-read the post with a buddy over last night and he said it may be misleading I agreed.
