Cerrosafe and chamber casting
I have had some Cerrosafe lying around but have never got around to using it. I remember reading some tips on using the stuff--things like warming up the chamber area, using a pre-warmed metal funnel with a copper tube, etc. Seems like the idea was to avoid pouring the melted cerrosafe into a "cold" chamber.

Any tips from the gang here?

I'm curious as well, and this will push this post back to the top. - Dan

Have the barrel warm but not hot, and the cerrosafe you can melt in a double boiler, or just a can in a pot of water. If you use a metal funnel yes you can warm it up, or you can just make a cone with some paper and masking tape. Put a small wad of paper towel 3/4" up the bore so you have enough of the throat to examine. Pour in the cerrosafe and wait 20 minutes, then knock it out with a rod. Try not to get any in the lugs when you pour. I need to look it up for certain, but cerrosafe shrinks for the first 1/2 hour then regains its dimensions later, I seem to remember it is normal size in an hour then expands at a predictable rate for the next few days.

Ever used yellow sulphur? Smells like hell, but it's fast and a very sturdy cast. Takes notime to solidify, and retains size forever.
