SoundmanAdjust a Mauser trigger?
I have a 98/22 Mauser that I am turning into a truck gun to shoot cast boolits. The trigger is very heavy, heavier than my trigger scale goes. I don't mind the 2 stage trigger but I would like to clean it up to 4-5 lbs less if I can do it safely.
How would I procede?

TailgunnerOn one of the other triger threads (within the last week) "Clark" posted the classic methiod of tuning a Mauser trigger.
Here's the thread.

AtkinsonGood move, Regardless of some posts on Mauser triggers, it is akin to making a silk purse out of a sows ear, it may be pretty good but never will be as good as a custom trigger..I have some Mauser triggers that have been modified and they are OK, but thats about it.....

ScrollcutterRay, while I agree with you that it doesn't make a lot of sense to alter the military trigger. Especially, with the Blackburn available. But, I have seen the triggers modified that were as good as a (hunting) trigger could be. And best of all, the modified triggers are bullet proof. Again, pun intended.

SoundmanI have a Blackburn for the 338/06 that Jack is building for me as $$$$ become available. This is for a 8mm beater. thats why I went the Dayton Traister way.
Thanks for the great advice

ClarkI can get 1.75 lb and .1" total movement with the stock trigger by swapping springs, adding a nail, and milling and soldering in a piece of steel to drill and tap for a take up screw and lock nut.
That is all free but just takes some time and skill, but is better than my BOLD store bought trigger came.
But when I break the yellow seal on the adjustments on the BOLD, and adjust it, I can get it to beat my best VZ24 trigger job to date.
The next thing I am going try is to sharpen the corners on the sear and the cocking piece on the stock triggers and see if I can beat the performance of the BOLD.
I don't want to pay $ thirty something for BOLD triggers for every Mauser that followed me home.
I got a Mauser in 1965 for $10 at auction.
I got a couple for $6 in 2003 at a gun show.

AtkinsonI agree Roger, and thought that is what I said, but guess I didn't come across quit as positive as you..At any rate I know you can make a good trigger out of a Mauser but a Blackburn will always be easier, cheaper, perhaps safer, and just better methinks.

WstrnhuntrOne of my Mausers wears the original trigger and I simply built up the reciever underneath where the trigger cam contacts the reciever. This caused it to have a much shorter single stage pull that works nicley for hunting. The aftermarket triggers are much more tunable, but from a saftey viewpoint, Im more comfortable with the altered original.
