Can a 500/510 Whisper be brought down to DeLisle Carbine noise levels?

LongDistanceOperatorCan a 500/510 Whisper be brought down to DeLisle Carbine noise levels?
Can an integral suppressor be made large enough to bring noise levels that low with a subsonic cartridge so much bigger than a 45acp? I realize it could look like a water cooled Vickers. Just wondering if it could be done.

dpcdYes, you just need a containment vessel to hold all the gas and release it slowly; that's how they work. The volume would obviously be bigger than one for the .45.
You already know this by stating that it would be as big as a water cooled MG jacket.

GeorgeSI don't know how "quiet" a DeLisle Carbine is but you can check the attenuation numbers on the Bowers Vers 50.
You could also call JD Jones at SSK Industries and ask him his thoughts. He not only created thw Whisper rounds, he makes suppressors, too.
Nothing is "Hollywood quiet".

LongDistanceOperatorI did call SSK before I posted. I got a receptionist who didn't know the answer.
It would make a heck of a hog gun.

AtkinsonIts just not practical to try and silence a big bore rifle IMO..at least based on the ones Ive shot..The only silenced gun Ive seen work short of a pistol was a 380 Mac 11 That I owned some 40 years ago, it sounded like a covey of quail exploding out of the bush. At the time the only caliber Im told that was actually silenced was those under 900 FPS..
Has that changed much?

GeorgeSLDO, I'd call back and talk to JD. He really knows his stuff.
My .458 SOCOM's report is noticeably quieter with Bowers Vers 458 can than without it, even with supersonic loads. Game doesn't seem to recognize suppressed fire as a threat.
The report is also non-directional, so pigs cannot quite figure out the source of the strange noise.
The slap of a bullet against a nearby critter WILL startle them, however.

dpcdIt's a matter of how practically big a suppressor you can accept. The DeLisle Carbine was quiet; BUT, the suppressor is half the length of the weapon, and two inches in diameter. Reports are that the noise was zero at 50 meters.
Of course, the 45 round is below the speed of sound, which is what causes bullet crack, as everyone knows.

Actually yes!
I built a muffler for a 22LR with a rubber wiper and shooting 22 shorts, there is no difference between cartridge and no cartridge, just the click of the firing pin. Mind you that is only the first shot when the wiper is intact and contains all the gas.
An AR-15 has an action noise of @118dB so quiert it will never get, but a bolt action can get very close to Hollywood if you jump the hoops and add a wiper.

butchloci have a friend that has a delisle and it is the most quiet gun i've shot. really fun to shoot steel targets with. there is this little pop from the rifle and a big clang when the 45 hits the steel. however to make one similar will take 2 OK's from the government - on3e for a short barreled rifle and another for the silencer both have to be serial numbered
