OldsargeRe: BBK 02 magnum mauser actions
Hush! Do not, repeat, do
not mention the BBK and Butch Searcy in the same sentence. He wouldn't touch those things with his .577 at 70 yards. The actions he used came from South Africa and they are smooth and beautifully built. Unless there has been a major improvement in the BBK since I last saw one, they are suitable for fishing sinkers.

RopesMagnum Dakota Actions are listed on the brownells catalog to 2k..

Frank CThe reason I ask is I saw Searcy BBK 02 in 416 Rigby in Cabellas. I am interested in building a 416, but for no other reason than nostalgia I'd like to use a d.s. bridge 98 action. I had never heard of a BBK 02.

jeffeossobbk...
number ONE.
les bauska created this... there is no doubt, as I've talked to les and his machinist, steve, on the matter
number two...
the original was MADE to be used more or less AS CAST
number three
it was designed as a mauser improvement. it has ZERO relationship to the cz, of which the 602 was being made, not the 550
number four...
it's traded hands a couple times, and has gotten WORSE
Ming had one, said it was rough. i've handled one... i'd rather use corncob to wipe than the current bbk
that being said, it's the CHEAPEST (in all senses of the word) action a 505 gibbs can fit into easily, feed correctly, and hold more than 2 down.
in short, if you just gotta have a gibbs, go for it...
ANYTHING else, cz550

Marc_StokeldI currently have 2 CZ 550 magnums and one BBK on the bench right now. THey are the same action. If you doubt this, get one of each in your hands and start measuring. Here are some pics of one of each side by side. THe BBK has had the front bridge converted to round from square, so it does not look like they do from the factory. If you look closely, you will see it is the same as the CZ without some milling cuts. THe BBK has British Imperial threads. The bolt is .730".
Here are some pics:

THe BBK can be made into a nice rifle, it just takes a lot of work to get it there.

mhoMarc, was this the picture you had in mind, or were there others? (You have to post the "direct" URL if you want an image to show directly. On the website where you upload your pictures, right mouse click, select "properties", then select the URL and CTRL-C. That is the direct URL of the picture):

OldsargeI'll ask Butch if I remember when I next see him, but I have a very hard time imagining him using a BBK as a base for a rifle. I know that he has used Vector and that he thought highly of them so am inclined to believe that whatever is listed in Cabela's is either an error on their part or on the seller's.

Marc_StokeldTHat was the picture. THanks for the help!!! I am not an expert at anything, especially computers.
It shows the BBK and CZ 550 Magnum side by side from different angles. The BBK is the one with the front bridge rounded off and it is more polished in the pics, plus it is on the left in all of the angles.
THese actions are dimensionally the same.
