Brownells used to sell No.1 barreled actions. I do not know if they still do or not. I haven't seen just the action for sale.

OK crew, here goes another of my stupid questions...is there a way to get a new #1 action only or do you have to buy the whole rifle? I know that M77 Mk 11 barrelled actions are availible new but have never seen or heard this about the #1. I would cruise the gun shows but live too far out in the sticks. Any comments?

It's not much of a savings to buy the barreled action from Brownell's. If you have the FFL to get the barreled action from Brownell's, you might as well get the whole gun for just a little bit more. Or better yet, buy a used rifle and sell off the extra parts.

Brownell's is a great company with outstanding service, but their prices are pretty high.

AuctionArms.com has some No1 barreled actions for sale for $399.

Well, there are circumstances and there are circumstances. Brownell's will give the FFL discount to someone who has a curio and relic license. That still requires that you have the barreled action sent to a genuine dealer but it can save you rather a bundle, though not down to $339 like that little .308! Frankly, I'd jump on that and worry about what caliber I really wanted later. Being me, I'd start dreaming about a .450/400 NE . . .

"Cruffles" really are something that every serious shooter ought to have. It only costs $30 for a 3 year license and you can save that much in reloading costs alone in the first year because Midway, Huntington's and Brownell's all have the same policy. There may be a bunch more companies who do the same, but these are the one's I know.
