Cal. 30 FU
A friend of mine bought an FN Deluxe mauser at the Cabelas in Buda.

The barrel is stamped Cal. 30 FU.

The Cabelas people said it was a 30-06.

Has anyone heard of this before?

I think I'd want to do a chamber cast to be sure.

What are your thoughts on this?

Better yet, stick a round in it and make that Cabela's guy pull the trigger first time.

Better yet make a chamber cast.

I would take it to a GOOD gunsmith and have him check it. If the knows what he is doing, and says it is a 30-06 I would have him shoot it OR tie it to a tree with a LONG string attached to the trigger, and shoot it, then examining the fired case, decide if it was safe to shoot again.

It is far safer to have achamber cast done. If it turns out to be a 30-06 great. If it turns out to be something else you can have custom dies made to reload for it. At least you know you would still have a rifle when all is said and done.

Rojelio,

But sure to let us know what the .30 FU turns out to be.

After looking at the stamp with a magnifying glass, He says it might be Cal. 30 EU.

That still doesn't ring a bell for me.

Maybe it's some Belgian designation for 30-06.

I told him to bring it out to my place and we could check it with go and no go guages and maybe do a chamber cast, but, he's been too busy to come out to the country.

He still hasn't shot it.

When the mystery is solved, I'll let you know.

I was thinking before that it might say .30 EU. Perhaps it is of South American origin at some point and the EU stands for Estados Unidos? .30 US?

Just a wild ass guess.

It sounds like the .30-40 Krag. Please let us know after you find out.
