white eaglestrip a bolt
does anyone know the technique for stripping a bolt of the extractor and spring loaded plunger ?
I am installing a barrel on a model 70 win.(push feed) and everything I have read on this says I need to strip the bolt to properly use the headspace gauges

MasteriflemanFor the ejector, you will see a crosspin in the bolt, that needs to be driven out usin g a 1/16" pin punch. Be careful and you will feel the tension on the pin punch when it pushes the pin completely out of the ejector. CAREFULLY, put yor hand over the ejector and remove the punch. The ejector (and maybe the spring) will "pop" in your hand with enough force to sting (use a glove).
The extractor can be removed by using the same punch to depress the pin and spring under the extractor, through the hole in the extractor face and CAREFULLY slide the extractor out of it's groove without letting the pin and spring go flying across the room. That will leave you ready to use the headspace gauge without any feel from the ejector or extractor. Of course, you will have to poke the gauge out with a cleaning rod or similar device.
