Looking for a custom action!
Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier of good quality actions.
We ave been importing Shilen barrels into the UK and I suppose this was inevitable that this would happen, so would like to try my hand at barrel plumbing..

Griff,
Do you have anything against the RPA actions? They're very popular here in the US as well as UK for long range.

Lot of folks out there make receivers. What are they going to be used for?

I don't have one, but here is an article about a Brit that built a rifle on a Surgeon action:

My motto is round bottom receivers are ok for low recoil, but for high recoil I want a flat bottomed receiver to take the rifling-bullet acceleration torque reaction.

Some actions come with integral base rails, some do not. I think it is well accepted that you will not beat a Stiller Predator action for the money. These can be had for around $750. This is the foundation for Best of the West's Gunwerks "long range hunting system." Therefore, you will need to get in line. Bartlien barrels is also a continuous consumer of these actions.

However, it has been said that it is hard to beat a BAT. I'm also going to bet that once you enter the realm of the $1000+ actions, you nor the customer will be able to tell the difference b/w any of them. They are all good.

I would urge you to get your hands on a BAT, Nesika Bay, and a Phoenix Machine first, with a Jim Borden Alpine or Timberline next and see for yourself.

Hi guys,
some great links there and it has made interesting reading.
I am looking to build a medium range rifle using something with a remmy 700 imprint.
Shilen select match sendero profile @26",HS stock or the new B&C varmint/tactical jewel or CG trigger.
the bat or the stiller seem to be the way to go, however the Barnard looks great but does not have the 700 imprint.

Then get a Stiller action. That is truly all you need and it will serve you well.

Stillers are great, but another you might consider is the Pierce. John makes them in CM and stainless.
http://www.pierceengineeringltd.com/. He does ship to Scotland. I have both brands personally.

Actually Barnard does have an action with the Remington footprint. You can have it as a single shot or repeater.
