I am feeling the need for a 404 Jeffery.
Anyone have any experiences with Canadian gunsmiths?
I know Prairie Gunworks is excellent but I don't believe they do this type of work.

Magnum mauser action, barrel band, 3 leaf express sights and nice wood.
Not really fancy but pleasing to the eye.
A nice classic big bore.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a few actions laying around and would like to sell in order to finance this project. Where would be the best place to sell them. Living in Canada it's impossible to sell across border

I use prairie gunworks for all my gun projects and they do exceptional work.I am just looking ay one of their catalogues and they do list custom wood stocked sporters and custom metal work.This is not their latest catalogue though so they may no longer do this type of project.I would give them a call or send an e-mail to find out for sure.

Chris Weber and his partner are at Steve Markin are in Kelowna at 250 368 8241. They do excellent work. Chris is another trasnplanted German. Rolf is excellent too. He is working with Martin Hagn now I believe.

I have heard some very knowledgeable responses here from Bill Leeper. Would not be surprised if he could do all you want.

I was involved in one for the last year and a half. It was built on a 1954 FN commercial action, Blackburn bottom metal was added and the bolt face was of course opened up. We put a single leaf on the rear sight. The following picture is before it was checkered or rust blued.

Yukon, Premier gun smithing and KS gunsmithing in Edmonton have both done very nice work for me in the past. You might try AC Douglas in Saskatoon, I have heard good things but never used his services. I would be interested in an actoin or two my self what do you have for sale.

I've had lots of work done by the brothers at Premier. They're good, but don't be in a hurry. Karl Schmidt (KS) isn't doing commercial gun work anymore, I believe, which is too bad, he did some nice stuff. FWIW - Dan

Dan: you are right,Premier made me a 40/65 on a Ruger #1 very nice job very accurate as well but it take's time.
My 500AS is there now.

I had one rifle built by premier firearms and the quality was good although not as good as prairie gun works.The biggest reason I will not deal with premier any more though is the constant lying as to when the gun will be ready.They told me about three months when I ordered the gun and after six months and no gun they began saying next week.That went on for another couple of months before the gun was finally delivered.

I remember the Ruger took a long time,I told Bill I was not in a hurry this may have been a mistake.

Martin, yes that's correct. Still waiting on the rack. I have one rifle that's been there 3 1/2 years. I hope to live long enough to get it. LOL. Oh well, that's one of the reasons I started doing more and more of this myself. Take care. - Dan
