Single Shot Shotgun Repair

Fellows, what's the normal route taken to repair a single shot break open shotgun lock up tighter? Would it be to install a larger diameter hinge pin after you determined in advance how much to move the barrel assembly closer to the receiver breech?

No way of knowing without seeing it. It might require a pin, or, it might require rebuilding, or, replacing the lock. What gun is it?

First thanks for replying. It's a friends shotgun I'm getting full details on it right now. It's an old Steven 12 ga single shot breakopen. I'll have the model number here shortly. Here's exactly how he described the slack or looseness: I am guessing the barrel to frame gap is the thickness of a piece of notebook paper.....0005-.0010". It's enough I can honk down on the barrel and make it go away.

The old timers used to tighten these by
peening the outside rear of the barrel.
If the gun is a beater that will work.

Yes I did. It's pretty busy today in the shop so it takes me a little while to break loose from the work bench and check my messages so give me a little time and I promise I'll get back to you...
