Target Rifle reblue
I have a 1942 Stevens 416 target rifle. Very beefy barrel and action smooth trigger. I'm thinking of having it reblued. The hooded front and the rear sight is made up of many parts. What does the gun smith do reblueing guns with so many parts? Does he dismantle any of the tiny components?

Yes, any competent gunsmith will completely disassemble and re-blue each part. All oil and grease must be removed. On some rifles of that era, small parts were heat or temper blued. That is they were heated until they turned blue and then quenched in oil. This is easy enough to do yourself with a propane torch and a cup of motor oil.

Don't think Stevens used heat bluing, and you will ruin any tempering on any parts you heat to a blue color. Just do hot blue with a mesh basket for the small stuff.
