LuckyduckerHas there been any wildcatting of the 308 Norma Magnum?
I wonder if anyone has done any wildcat from a 308 Norma? I would like to neck mine down to either a 6.5mm or .277 but I don't know if I want to spend the money to be the first to have it done. Apparently this is not a very popular cartridge to play with as I haven't found anything done with it.

ramrod340Well most people make their 308norma brass by necking down a 338Wmag. Which is the same case as the 7mmrem mag, the 264 Wmag. Bascially you would have the same as the factory cases with a little longer neck. People exchange loads between the 30-338 and 308Norma all the time.
If you simply want a wildcat gor for it but you will not gain anything over the factory magnums.
This comes from a guy currently building a 308 Norma and that loves his 358 Norma.
Not the Norma per se, but a lot based on the 338 Win Mag case. We have for instance the popular 7mm Rem Mag, and the ever popular 264 Win Mag.

The .338 Win Mag necked up to 35, .375, or .416 are great spin offs using the almost Norma case. And Win mag brass is probably cheaper.

vapodogwould you actually have anything different from a 270 weatherby or a 264 win magnum?
There's a strandard cartridge for the "308 Norma style" of cartridge in all calibers from .257 to .358 and a very popular wildcat in the .375 and .416.
I'm not sure what's to be gained by additional wildcatting there.
