Factory pre-64 barrel
I have a new pre-64 model 70 barrel in 30-06. Is old enough that it's listed as 30 Govt. Would be perfect for someone restoring a pre-64. If interested, contact me. I haven't listed a price, as need to discuss that with anyone who might be interested.

Are you sure it's an -06?

As I recall the .30-40 Krag was originally considered the .30 government, and became the .30-40 after the 1903 Springfield showed up...

But I'm no expert.

Don't ever remember seeing a Pre-64 M70, chambered by the factory, for any rimmed case except the Hornet.
Somewhere on the barrel there is probably a number stamped which denotes year of production.

If it is 30/40 it would be rare .

The early ones were stamped .30govt'06

Model 54 barrels were also marked that way.

The 220 Swift is listed as a "Semi-rimmed" case. So is the 225 Win.

Model 54 and Model 70 were made in 30-30. 30 WCF I mean.
A 30-30 Model 70 is quite rare. Perhaps made for employees out of 54 parts.

Jim Kobe is right. I went back and looked and is 30Gov06, so an 06. tag with it says it was made in 1946. So back to, does anyone need one. Always seems we see some one wanted one, six months after the fact.

Is it a standard barrel, that is 24" or is it a feather weight, which would be 22" long?

Win marked 30-06 as 30 Gov't 06 until 1950

30-40 Krag were marked 30 US and were in model 1895's primarily. I have seen M54 in 30 WCF (30-30 Win) rechambered to 30-40 but don't know if any were available in 30-40 originally.

All Win 70's marked 30 Gov't 06 are 24 or 20 inch standard contour. The 22 inch Featherweights came out in 1952 after they started marking 30-06 as 30-06 Sprg or 30-06 Spfld

What this gentleman said if I were a betting man. I had heard of 30 Govt 03 re-64s and recently someone claimed to be selling one on auction. To me it looked like a crappy stamping once I got a magnifier to it. Some internet searches seemed to bear this out. This too was in my opinion a 30 Govt 06.

Its a 30-06, Ive seen a truck load of them marked 30 Govt 06, its a std. wt. pre 64 or pre war 30-06 barrel..

30 US Govt was a 30-40 mod. 95, the other was marked 30-03 as best I recall and these days they are marked 30-06 not sure about the dates of change.

Mod. 54s could be had in 30-30 and quite a nice ladys rifle according to win. and I have to agree. I would love one in 30-30. I had a super grade at one time in 30-30 that I purchased in about 1980 for $500, today it would be worth twice or three times that in the condition it was in, bad bore but shot an inch to and inch and a half...

No fwt 70s in those days, the men were tougher!!
