I have never done it but, if a customer wanted it done I would turn an insert and hard solder it in place........Tom

As for feeding I can't answer that but would be willing to bet it will not be completely functional

I've done a similar alteration on several 1891 Mausers, reducing the original .473 size to accept the .375 head of the .223 cartridge.

In one case I used soft solder, in the other case I used Black Max. Both conversions are still operating completely successfully but in the future I'll probably use epoxy instead of the Black Max.

Hard solder or TIG can possibly alter the hardness of the lugs and so, since this is a non-critical non-load-bearing area, I chose to use a low-temperature attachment method that is also entirely adequate for the purpose even though not as strong as the others. KISS.
