Is this stock a bargin?
At Great American Gunstocks.

For M98 Mauser- Oberndorf classic rifle stock made from a dazzling piece of Bastogne walnut- richly figured with nice streaking- and even has a natural graft-line forearm tip has a small blemish on the comb- well repaired- not noticable.
$275.00

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Bargin? What one person views as a bargin if high to the next. Assuming the repair is not noticable as Henry Claims and you like that much figure it is worth $275

I bought this from his bargin table for a little more and it continues to get prettier as I sand it.

As usual just my $.02

I don't like the layout in the grip, but to each his own. Just be sure and tell him you want to inspect it in person and return it if you don't like it. In the whole scheme of things yea, I'd say it was a bargin.

I've bought 4 from him, 3 were good and 1 was crap. I should have sent the bad one back but tried to fix it. By the time I was finished it was worse than before I started. Big Grin Hell, I don't know what I'm doing, but that's half the fun of it.

Considering what goes “unnoticed†by that shop I would want more assurance than just their word before I plunked down the cash.

I'm no expert but the grain flow through the wrist would make me nervous if I was going to use it with a cartridge that generated any good amount of recoil.

I dont think they had a big boomer in mind when shaping this one, though the wrist does look clubby.

I would probably spend some time shaping down the wrist and a little bit of the belly to take some weight off, maybe even the side panels too, they take away from the prettiness IMHO.

I like the shnabel shape, it would be a bitch though to keep those corners crisp while sanding. I bet it would look great when done up right.
