Model 70 trigger adjustment
Hello: I have no idea if adjusting the trigger on a Winchester Model 70 is a job for the gunsmith or not. This rifle ia a Pre WWII Model 70 and I grew up shooting the rifle. It has a fine trigger but is set very stiff. If possible I am going to adjust it to an easier pull. I would appreciate any advice I receive on this problem. Thank you and enjoy hunting season. It is a doable project, and I believe it was addressed in a thread here a few months back, so look back a ways and see if you can find it.

My suggestion is before you make any adjustments just clean everything impeccably and lubricate the trigger using a quality oil, A good gun oil will work or something else more proprietary.

Use tiny box wrenches to loosen the jam nuts. Ignition wrenches I think they are called. Ease up on the return spring tension. Make sure overtravel is not excessive. DO NOT stone anything!! It is already smooth and the tollerances are very tight if you remove any appreciable material it won't work right. That assumes you keep the angle correct and that is no easy feat. For gosh sake don't decrease engagement by grinding or stoning. You need what you have for a safe trigger. I bet the return spring is overly compressed, start there.
