hodpcd oberndorf barrel
dcpd tell me a little about your douglas oberndorf contour barrel. Mainly finish length and weight compared to a 30-06 24 inch remington 700 barrel. thanks in advance

But basically, they are 25 inches long, .650 muzzle and the weight depends on the caliber. They will weigh more than a remington barrel, to which there is no comparison except to say that they are infinitely better in all respects. All the Rem 30-96 barrels I have are 22 inch.
I also have the Rigby Earl of Marlborough pattern which is for light calibers non magnum. 275 Rigby is most popular.
Blacktailers barrel is not exactly the Oberndorf contour; I will have to mail you pics of them since I have no pic host now. His is more like the Rigby Marlborough one.

dpcdAnd those original Oberndorf steps have been proven in some very unscientific testing to be more accurate than a smoothly tapered barrel by breaking up the vibrations in them. I always knew that the Mauser brothers were smart. Note, the military barrels have 4 steps, the commercial ones have, one.
