Hi all,

I find I have to crawl my rifle stock to get a full sight picture. winchester in 375 using an echols legend stock. rifle gets hunted in both warm and cold weather. even in warm weather it's a tad long. thinking to have the stock trimmed 1/4-1/2". does a 1/4" make a noticeable difference?

Yes it certainly does.

You are looking at two separate issues. First, stock length. If it is too short, lengthen it. If too long, shorten it. If just right, leave it alone.
Second, eye relief. The scope is made so that it presents a proper field of vision at a certain distance from the eye. Close your eyes and bring the rifle up to a comfortable/natural firing position. Then open your eyes. That is where you want your eye to be and you need to move the scope forward or rearward till you get the correct image. Bear in mind that the position of your head will change in different shooting positions, i.e. standing, sitting, prone. Mount the scope to favor the position you will use most often.

Can you shoulder the rifle comfortably with your eyes closed? Is it comfortable only in light clothes?

If it's comfy in a t-shirt and long in a coat I'd leave the stock alone. If it's a little long in a T-shirt and unweildy in a coat I'd trim it. When it's comfortable with your eyes shut your good, then address eye relief.
