Iron sight setup and correction calculations
I've noticed that people are searching for iron sight adjustment calculations. The first pic is setup to get the sights parallel, which will get you close. Second pic is correctional adjustments per sight radius. Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting, it’s always a battle for me to get iron sights dialled in that’s why I prefer to leave them off lol.

It's not that hard; install them parallel at first.
Shoot the rifle.
Fire and adjust. (Tank Gunnery Term I have used many times).
No forumla can tell you how much to move sights because of the way everyone holds differently, handles recoil, muzzle flip and jump, sight picture.
I know the OP means well.

Thanx dpcd! This goes back to the fellow that wanted/needed a front sight for his Ruger Blackhawk.

Sorry it made your head hurt. I probably made it more complicated than needed.
My basic question was what the factory height was for a blackhawk and I recieved several replies that varied considerably for the same exact model killpc.
Drove me nuts also and can only conclude that it depended on year of production.

Very Good Info! Thanks Roger~~~

Another iron sight measurement I gleaned from my days building iron sighted muzzleloading rifles for old guys.(Now I am the 'old guy'.)

The rear sight location for optimum focus, particularly for aging eye sight is 25" from buttplate.

Measuring from the buttplate is used because to is relative to how and were the rifle is held at the shoulder.

Rear sight location on a 1910 vintage Mauser sporting rifle

Try it; any closer and the sight is blurry, much farther and it is difficult to see.

Roger's post is a great start..I also look up ballistics tables to figure drop at different ranges. For instance, you'll be off about 2 feet at 100 yards if you set the sights parallel to bore on a 458 WM.

All this brings up the logic of peep sights. The offerings from Recknagel (NECG) are not only adjustable, but plenty robust for a DGR

Brownells used to make a plastic dove tail wiht sections for POI..get the tall one and clip off the sections as you sight it and drift left and right for horizontal and when when sighted in, measure it and order a sight.. Easiest process I know, some body on AR sugest using a tooth pick and glued it in the dovetail for elevatiion but didn't say how they handled horizontal??

Those dobbers from Brownells were in 12 per package for next to nothing..save them as they might be reusable ..
