Side Reciever Scope Mount Question??
Hey guys,

Does having an action that had a Griffin and Howe side mount on it affect the strength of the action?

Thanks

It shouldn't affect the strength if installed correctly. As in, not a bunch of extra "oops!" holes.

Thanks Mark,

There are 3 extra holes on the left side that are filled nicely with screws.

Basically all the strength of an action is needed in the front ring where the bolt lugs lock up. The rest of the action is mainly to guide the bolt in it's raceways. Properly drilled and tapped side mount holes are never anywhere near the front of the action. If anything, the top mount screw holes would weaken an action more if that were the case.

Do it right the first time.

I have a G&H Side Mount installed by G&H on a 1964 Browning FN chambered .338WM. No action problems.

You need a good idea of the scope you plan to use before installing the side mount. The side mount is expensive and may or may not add value to the rifle.

I have g&h sidemounts on everything from 30-06 to 458wm. never had a problem except the 30-06 was set to high for me to keep a consistent spot weld
