yumastepsideDubbin
When prepping a barrelled action for bedding, we are often told that " neutral " shoe polish will work as a release agent.....has anyone tried " dubbin "?

BaxterBhmm.. never even heard of that,l but looks close enough.
For the record I use Hornady one-shot case lube in layers. easy peasy.

dpcdYes it would work. Any kind of shoe polish will work because it is wax. No need for layers. One coat of Johnson's paste wax works, always, for 5 decades now. I would not use anything with solvent that remains. It can kill epoxy.

416RigbyHunterThe best stuff For have found other than shoe polish is 100% bees wax. Works so well it is all I use.
Cheers.

yumastepsideThere's a thought......I use a 50/50 mix of pure bees wax and paraffin oil as a finish on my wood turning and the furniture I make, so that would probably work....cheers

dpcdYou guys are making this hard.
Step 1: Go to Lowes or any store.
Step 2: Buy a can of Johnsons paste wax. As in, floor wax in the yellow can.
Step 3: Use that.
No mixing, no alchemy, no fuss, no mess. And it works 100% of the time.

yumastepsideYes, all fine and easy Tom......only problem is, you can't buy the stuff in Australia unless you buy it on Evilbay ....from the States!! Postage is astronomical.
Hence we come to the reason that I am trying to find an alternative....anyway, it looks like neutral shoe polish, dubbin or some type of bees wax will do the job.
Thanks to all for their input.

dpcdYou don't have any floor wax in Australia? What do they wax wood floors and furniture with?
Google found this; Ubeauts wax, from Carbatec, Timbecon, or any wood finishing store.
Bunnings has Feast Watson Mastertouch Carnuba Wax.
Minwax was also mentioned as being available.
