ACTION LENGHTS
WHAT ARE THE SIZE LIMITS ON THE DIFFERENT LENGTH ACTIONS IE. SHORT, STANDARD, AND MAGNUM? I GOT INTO THIS DISCUSSION OVER WHAT CARTRIDGES COULD FIT INTO A REM MODEL 7 AND WASN'T SURE OF THE LENGTH RESTRICTIONS. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

Well, there are the short actions chambered for cartridges that are typically 2.8" long. Standard and short magnum puts the length out to about 3.3", give or take, and full length magnums are about 3.65". Then there are actions suitable for the very small cartridges, 222-223 class or 2.3" or less, and the real magnum sized actions, for 3.75 and greater. One more step up brings you to the 50 BMG class. On a Remington Model 7, standard short action cartridges of 2.8" or less will fit. With some judicous action/magazine box work, you can stretch that to 3.0". That's about it though. Hope it helps. - Dan
