action advice
Can a pre 64 model 70 magnum action in 375 H@H caliber be used to build a .338 Lapua? Would the m70 mag acton be a better choice than a cz 550 magnum?

You might want to examine the actual 375 H&H action you are planning to use before you commit to it. I currently have one in the shop who's owner had it rebarreled for a .338 Win Mag and the folks who did the job failed to check it for proper feeding.

This particular unaltered 375 H&H action doesn't have enough right hand feed rail to contain the wider shouldered cartridge, so the rounds on the right pop up prematurely and jam the works. Not exactly something you would want on a DGR. Look it over good before you decide to use it.

Thanks for your reply.

How much trouble would there be for a good gunsmith to do this?

Would he have to do alot of extra work to convert a M70 magnum over to 338 Lapua?

Is this the best choice? I like controlled round feed/strenght.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply Westpac

The pre 64 m70 action I am refering to is in another state. The man who is selling it told me it was a factory 375 H@H action from the 1950's. The only way I could look at it would be to buy it. I am really a little gun shy when it comes to buying things sight unseen. But sometimes a man just doesant have any other option.

I want to do the right thing and build a rifle that will be reliable, and that I can be proud of.
