Toomany ToolsWinchester 1400 magazine tube
I have to change one of these and it looks like it's pressed in. Any ideas on the best way to remove and replace one?
Thanks

M PursellI never found a way to do it that didn't sound like I was courting disaster. I used to send them back to Winchester to do, I don't know what I'll do now. I've added them to the list of "jobs I decline to take".

Bill MeyerAfter fighting several m1200's and m1400's I rigged up some tools to do it the painless way. If you would like me to do it for you send me a pm. Bill

Toomany ToolsI got it apart but I now see that the replacement magazine tube is not threaded for the magazine throat--it's grooved but not threaded. I haven't got the replacement magazine throat yet but I'm betting that is threaded too. Anyone know what I've got here...other than a mess?

Bill MeyerThe magazine throats and the tube is not threaded-it's a pressed in fit, really tight in most guns. Bill

The magazine throat for the 1200 I just finished was threaded to the tube and that assembly was a press fit into the receiver. At one point they changed from a threaded 1 piece throat design to a grooved 2 piece throat, perhaps that is what you are referring to.

Toomany ToolsOn this 1400, what was left of the throat--a very small piece--was threaded to the end of the magazine tube. The replacement magazine tube I got from Numrich is not threaded, it is grooved so this tube goes with a two-piece throat. Now the problem is that I have found sources for one-piece throats but not two-piece—at least not for the 1400. Midwest Gun Works has two-piece throats for the 1300; anyone know if that will work on the 1400 with this grooved tube I have?

M PursellThe magazine throat for the 1400 has a slot in it for the bolt release, the 1300 throat does not.

LesBrooksA simple job!! Place the cap on the end of the tube and drive it back into the receiver. Next remove the plastic parts. Make a sliding hammer out of a piece of 6 in. thick wall pipe to fit over the tube. When new parts are lined up on the tube place the sliding hammer over the tube, replace the cap, then slam it hard forward to reset the tube in place.
When your are a warranty station you get info that is not available to the average shop.
Hope this helps.

Toomany ToolsThanks for the replys. I've gotten it apart using the slide-hammer approach. I spoke to Numrich today and they figure they sent the wrong tube and will send one that takes the threaded magazine throat. As long as Midwest Gun Works comes up with the new throat I'll have this thing back in business.
Thanks again!
