sydsdaddyswiss 7.5 x 55 question
Hi all my brother in law and I found a swiss schmitt-rubin sportierized 1896/11 in our father-in-laws attic after much research he ID'd it and we have come to find out it uses the 7.5 x55 swiss round. This translates into a 174gr GP11 round. I am not familiar with this round, is this more or less a .308 or more similar to a 30-06. Any help would be appreciated as we dont even have a magazine for it.

M1TankerAnother good source for info on your rifle and load date is the Swiss Rifles forum. They have all the info you will ever need.

Alberta CanuckJust be sure to take heed of the warnings that top loads for the K-31 should not be used in the 1896/11. Both are 7.5x55, but the cartridge loadings are not identical, nor are the earlier 96/11s reputed to be as strong as the K-31s.
Using the K-31 loads likely will NOT destruct the rifle the first time they are used in it. That doesn't mean they do not simulate a "bomb" in the 96/11...just that you don't know when/if the bomb is going to go off.
