I have a .308 Brno with a VZ24 action, if you open the action it seems to be loose to both sides (side to side), is this right or should it be very tight without free play when opening. I also would like more info on the VZ24, quality, durability and history. Do they still manufacture these actions and how do they compare to the K98 actions. I would appreciate any info/help in this regard.

hannesk I am far from the expert on this subject, but I will offer my .02 cents worth. It sounds like you'r describing the movement of the bolt as you have it pulled back, some movement is normal for most all rifles.

The VZ-24 is a 98 action made in Czechoslovakia and seem to be a highly recommended basis for sporter rifles. Good quality, good steel.

They are a tad shorter than a K98 I believe, but don't have the facts committed to memory on that subject.

Some of the real experts will chime in here in a little while and set us straight. There are some very knowledgeable folks on here concerning all of the nuances of the Mauser history.

The VZ-24 is the same action length as the K-98.

The VZ-24 is the same as a k-98 and the bolt movement sounds normal. This rifle started life as a military weapon meant to work under any condition. Rhese rifles lock up tight when the bolt is closed but seem a little sloppy when you open the bolt. This keeps them working in mud, dust rain snow, etc.
