Mini MKX
I was wordering if the 6MM BR would feed from the Mini MKX. Anyone have any experiences that they could pass on? Cartridges stacking in the magazine properly etc.

I've been putting off trying this for several years. When CD announced these rifles back in production, it was very confusing. The original specs showed the actions available in three bolt face and two magazine length combinations. They showed a 222, ppc, and 22-250 bolt face. However, the barreled actions and rifles were shown with the 22-250 built on the short standard action. They initially imported a test batch of 250 barreled actions and actions only. These quickly sold out and I didn't get one. I talked to the head of their service dept (who I suspect may be an independent shop) and he told me he took ten or fifteen of the small ones, but he took all small bolt face, which could be opened up to any size.

Current specs and listings still leave it unclear as to whether there is or was a Mini with the longer mag and a .473 bolt face. However, I did see someone in Gun List last issue which had 3 of them listed.

If they are available, I think one in 6 BR could be made into the best walking varmint rifle on the planet. I would pick a 10 inch twist so that it could be used for deer. Several years ago, when they were small, I built two 6/223 rifles for my daughters. One was on a Sako and one on a Mini X. (The actions were almost identical, used the same stock pattern). The one on the Mini used an 18" Douglas no. 1 contour with a stock I made from a really light piece of super curly maple with claro tip and grip. Topped with a 2-7x Burrin compact, the entire gun weighed right at 5 pounds. I have no qualms about using it for whitetail while stand hunting. In 6 BR, I think it would be the perfect varmint/whitetail rifle for someone with health, ambulatory or neck/spine problems. I have a 6 BR I built on a 700 action, but I believe one on the Mini with a really light stock would weigh about two pounds less.

I bumped into a minty Mini Mark X in 223 last year for $275 and have been thinking that it should become a 6.8 SPC whenever Remington starts making factory ammo and cases available.

A customer of mine has a .479 bolt face Mini MKX. He bought it very recently, I think from Natchez or Sports South.

Doug, mine came as a 7.62X39 and now is rebarreled in 270X39 IMP. It is a wonderful combination. It is lightweight, accurate, and low recoil. I do have the reamer for it. Butch

Doug, it's a 223. If I do another Mini Mark X, I'd like to do the 6x45 (6mm-223).

Yes, they are available with a 22-250 head size.
If you look on their European web site they are actually sold in Europe chambered for the 22-250. I'll be buying one of the actions in a few months and will barrel it up as a 6mmBR. Will post my results.

I checked the web site again. They list a 22-250 version, but he bolt is listed as .453, which should be the ppc/7.62x39. The specs for the two are exactly the same. I suspect it is a misprint.

I'll believe the .473 boltface when I see it.....the bolt diameter is about .540 and that don't leave much of a rim or lugs.

I have two of them...one a .223 and one a 6 X 45 and they're good for that case. A .204 Ruger might also be in order but I personally wouldn't go with a larger diameter cartridge case head.

Vapodog,

I, like you, wanted to see one before I believed it. They do exist and yes there is little bolt face left when opened up to .473. I am only considering the 6mmBR because they are actually sold with a 22-250 barrel on them,
at least in Europe. Charles Daly doesn't import the 22-250 versions.
