tlp3356.5x55 or 257 Roberts SA Mauser
I have a turk mauser action that I have been "cleaning" up. It is getting time to start the build and I was all set on a 6.5x55, but now I am leaning towards the 257 bob. I never owned a 6.5x55, so for real hunting applications, I have no idea of what to expect. Any suggestions? I currently have a 257-444AI and a 6.5-06AI, so I really don't NEED either, but I wan't to put this mauser together.
Thanks!

vapodogJust an opinion......the 6.5 X 55 is everything the "Bob" is and a bit more....almost the same case but the 6.5 X 55 can handle a lot more bullet.
I own both and can attest that you can't go wrong with either....both are excellent rounds.....the "Bob" slightly better varminter and the Swede a slightly better big game rifle.
Both will fit your Mauser very nicely.

craigsterSince you got both a 6.5 and a 25, why not go with the "obsolete" 7x57.

Well sorry but then you join the rest of us that no longer have NEEDS only WANTS

Have not heard of a 257-444AI . Curious how you AI a straight wall case.

. Anyway sounds like something other than a Mauser type bolt action round. So between the 257R. The 6.5x55 in a modern action is just a 6.5-06AI less 100fps.
As usual just my $.02

tlp335The 257-444AI is a 444 necked down to 257 and then fireformed. It is basically a 257AI with a rim. It is in a T/C Encore barrel.

Because maybe some folks prefer the "obsolete" .280 Remington!

RiodotSince I'm a Swede, I have to vote for the 6.5x55 "swede"

Bent FossdalIt should not really be called Swede at all. It was named 6,5x55, thats all. The norwegians loaded it for their Krag Jørgensen at a somewhat lower preassure than the swedes for their M94 Mauser. Both have a lower preassure than todays loadings.
The round was created by a norwegian and swedish assembly.
Damned Swedes. But its a fair trade for our oil!

rodger wrightTwo ole time gunsmiths that I knew both liked the Swede. One homestead CO.,and said any bullet that could o from the ass end of an Elk to the front was good. The other guy killed over eighteen Elk in 21 trips to CO., he said at first the ranchers lauh at him an his pop gun after killing the first Elk, he was taking orders.
