FWIW, I think so. I use a V3 on my 35 Whelen with good success. The new Japanese Weavers have a reputation for holding up well and decent glass to boot. Dutch.

I have a Weaver 2-7X on a model 24V, used to be .223/20 gauge, is now 6x45mm/20 gauge. So far I have not had any trouble with the scope although the instructions say not to fire the shotgun barrel with scope attached.

I'm curious what V series scopes they are still making -- having they discontinued the V3 and V9, or is it just that not everyone carries them?
