RollandMachining question
I have a VZ 24 action that I have thought to make into a takedown rifle. The last one I did I made it to unscrew with full threads, this one I would like to make an interrupted thread so the question is....
Since I cannot broach the receiver is there anyone that could be recommended to do the work.

richjdon't you just remove alternating 22.5deg of thread?

RollandI think so but the barrel and receiver has to match so it will index. the barrel is not a problem but the receiver is for me as I do not have a way to broach the slots.

dpcdBroaching would require a very expensive tool (the broach), so most would use a shaper, single point cut. (And you have to remove more material than a true broach will cut anyway, thinking of a broach through the receiver ways)
However, not having a shaper either, I have done it with a cutter mounted on a rod, in the lathe chuck, and the receiver mounted in a cross slide vise; move it back and forth.
Or use a rotary table with the receiver vertical. (Best way)
Or hand file it like they do in Peshawar.
Lots of ways to skin a cat. But to answer your question; I know of no one who will do it. I have no time.

Russ Gouldi would think interrupted thread might be dicey for a high powered rifle. ok on a 30-30 but not a 300 mag. over time might develop headspace issues.

dpcdPlenty of English TD Mausers that still work 100 years later, in heavy calibers.
