Actions for the 505 Gibbs
A number of years ago, I owned a custom rifle in 505 Gibbs. It had been made by Sterling Davenport for Mark Sullivan. The rifle was light for caliber in weight (10 lbs) and kicked like hell. I let Sterling sell the damn thing for me to a friend that wanted it very much. Mr. Davenport is building me a 500 Jeffery on a commercial Mauser action in the fashion of an original Jeffery rifle he has. This project will be completed soon. I would like him to make me another 505 Gibbs only a little heavier. Since I am fresh out of Magnum Mauser actions, what are the alternatives to use for the action?? I have been awaiting the PH action from Montana Rifles and have seen and evaluated the Granit Mountain Arms action. There has been some talk on the forum about the Williams Company building a super magnum action but I have seen no discussion on price and production availability. I do not want the CZ action at all. I would prefer not to use the enfield action as it would cost more than a GMA action to produce. I am also looking at making it a take down type rifle but am not sure about that. Any suggestions??recommendations?? If one is contemplating the building of a fine custom rifle the action selection is very critical to its acceptance and resalability!!!!!-

Sorry I can't help with action selection but would love to hear everything about that 500 Jeffery.Acceptance and resaleability is a subjective thing so I wouldn't even consider it and build just what I wanted.Cheers.

I wonder what makes the Enfield so expensive to use? Is it the opening of the box and receiver? Just curious.

This looks like a pretty good option to me. Hein actions are really superb. I have a rare Brevex 510 Wells barreled action I'll sell for $2600.
