I don't have the equipment, knowledge or skill to run a mill either but doesn't limit your options. I'm on my second 80% polymer AR-15 lower and I'll be completing an AR-10 one night this week. Takes less than an hour if you have a two-axis drill press vice. The AR-15 kit is $80 which includes the lower, jig and the end mill and twist drills needed to finish it. I'd do aluminum if I had the option but I don't think a quality polymer lower gives up anything meaningful to the hunter/sport shooter.

There are other brands but if you spend an hour on YouTube watching side by side reviews the choice is not difficult.

The polymer doesn't give up much to the sportsman but being a 27 year injection mold maker and having a deep understanding of most things molten and injectable including MIM

The quality of the finished product with aluminum vs the nylon lower is very evident

Not to mention we shoot more than the average sportsman.....this is why I opted for non-rotating pins

I took what is known as an 80% lower and completed the maching

3 precision drilled and reamed holes and 2 blind pockets and one through slot

No store bought drill or milling jigs

Just old fashioned Bridgeport mill work, edgefinder and a calculator

......and a dose of Tapmagic Aluminum formula once in a while

My Grandson is building a 1911 that is partially done. The grip frame is synthetic . He has the slide fitted so far and man is it smooth. His bench mill is so old it must have done some of the work on the ARK. So far he has built a horrible green AR15 in .50cal that really shoots well. He's not afraid to take on anything of this sort as it's within his budget. A little determination goes a long way.
