DougH9Model 70 action screw (need longer one)
I need a longer front action screw for a Win. M70 (it is only getting a couple of threads).
Does anybody know if (and where) this might be availible? (I have searched Midway & Brownells).
Or, can I alter the screw from another rifle to work? (M1903, M1917, etc.)
Any help much appreciated. Doug

Toomany ToolsBrownells carries screw blanks just for that purpose. Cut the blank to the length you need then thread with the correct die and you got it.

mhoI got one from Brownells as well. Canadian Customs managed to loose my action screws from a disassembled M70 in a take-down case when I crossed the border. Next time, I'll remember to assemble all the loose pieces and tape them to the wall of the gun case...

He might have a problem finding a die for a 1/4-32 thread; it ain't standard. I would take a long one and pick up the tread to thread longer and cut it to the correct length. Those Brownell's screws have big heads and a lot of extra length but can be useful.

fyjBrownell’s has the proper ¼ x 32 die. Part number is: 395-143-204

Toomany Toolsfyi, thanks; I forgot to mention they had the dies too. They carry them for most all the odd sizes used in action screws like 1/4-25 which I can't even cut om my lathe.

DougH9Thank you for the comments guys. I am going to order the die to go with the screw blanks (now that I know the size). Doug
