ElCaballerocal 7.92
I have a recently aquired Spanish Mauser. M1943 Short Rifle. According to the books it is a 7.92 Cal. Just what is that?
Otherwise known as the 8x57 or 8mm mauser.
The Spanish M43 is a near copy of the K98k.

6_5X57The M1943 is a 8X57 IS, very close to the K98k. It was made in the factory of La Coruña (north of Spain). The bullet size is .323 and the steels have an intermediate quality in most of the cases, but the rifle worked in several campaings under hard weather conditions(Sidi-Ifni war, Sahara...). Your version is the Cavalry one (Others versions have a barrel length of 60 cm).
In Spain, the market value is around 500-600 €. (650-800 US $)

Dang! I picked this one up for $55 at a farm auction. I looked it up in the Military Mausers of the world as well as Mauser Bolt Rifles. Just couldn't figure out what the 7.92 was. I probably just needed to read more. I think this one will make a nice 275 Rigby!

Sure, but you know what the 275 Rigby is, right?

James C ScottHey, didn't Spain use 275 Rigbys during the Spanish American war? I think they called it the 7mm Mauser or 7x57 or something like that.

georgeldNothing wrong with the old 8mm either.
Great OLD deer, GI rifle, killed a bunch of both.
Just almost equal to an '06.
