Win 70 Date of mfg?
I have been looking for a 80's vintage mod 70. I want to make a 280AI for the ........cause I want one! Found a used one at the Gun shop with the serial #G1853xxx. Can anyone help me with the date of mfg.

One of the experts on this board mentioned that the 80's vintage 70s were the best of the bunch as far as the push feed 70s go. Thats why I'm looking.

Hi,

Longbob posted this handy site some time ago:

http://www.oldguns.net/

In the left side at the bottom there is a selection for Winchester Manufacture dates. Try it.

I don't think that site (Old Guns) will work with a serial number that high.

Your right <blush>

That site only goes to serial number 1,537,135.

Sorry.

Soundman,

My reference book only goes up to 1982 and stops at G1537134 being made at the start of 1982...

Best,
Joe

I did a search for the manufacture date of my M94 in .32 Win Special that my dad bought when he was 13 or so back in 1943 and gave to me for Christmas in 2001. He actually gave it to me in July of 1975, but I finally got my hands on it 26 years later. Not knowing much about searching anything a year ago, I just typed in "winchester firearms date of manufacture" and fumbled my way to this site that asks for the serial number and model. You plug it in and the date pops out to the month and year only. My 94 was built in 1910. His old M70 was built in 1945. The serial numbers on these guns were just numbers, no letters. Hope this helps.
