z1rMauser Tang sight
Anybody ever use one of these?

I see them all the time and they have quite a bit of appeal to me. But, it seems that there could be a couple of issues.
First, inletting the wrist: Does it substantially weaken the stock? If so, is there a limit as to caliber they are useful on?
Second, it would seem that the bolt would contact the sight as it is cycled much like many leverguns do. Is this the case?
One reason I never liked tang sights on leverguns was the tendency to bite you in the web of your hand. Is this an issue on the Mauser?
Any additional input would be appreciated.

mbogo375The biggest thing that I have one on is a 7x57. It works fine on that, but I wouldn't want one on a heavy kicker from a safety standpoint (I don't want anything that close to my eye).

KurtCI had them on two Mannlicher-Schoenauer 1910 take-down rifles in 9.5x57ms. They were both factory inletted into the pre-war "toothpick" stocks used on the models 1903-1910.
They were spring-loaded, so that they would compress as the bolt is drawn back and return upright as the bolt is pushed forward.
They were used in conjunction with the standard barrel sights. The two-position aperature made it clearer to see the leaf and bead barrel sights.
I found them very useful for precision shooting when you don't wish to mount a scope.

z1rThanks for the feedback. Good to know I can still have a slim wrist. Are these ok to use sans a traditional rear sight? I was hoping so.
